7/24/23 SLB

Happy Monday! Our featured workouts are in-studio. All live streaming and in-person workouts are over on our Mindbody site. They’ll typically live over on Mindbody unless they are part of the weekly program. To access these recorded live stream workouts or take them live, you just need to make an account on our mindbody app and then look for them under videos. Also, check out a note from me about these workouts.

Our Third Eye, also known as Ajna chakra, is an invisible eye usually located on the forehead. It's power is to boost perception of things that can't be seen by your eyes. This mystical eye is part of what is called "the subtle body," which means that while it can't be seen, it's considered an important force in governing how prana (energy) moves within the body. This QB is a serious weighted body booster with insight to help see you through.

Short Cut is a 24-min QB that begins that begins with a weighted Pretty Girl series which moves into more compound core sculpting. You’ll need one heavy weight.

28-Min Cardio is 28-min of iconic CCS Cardio. No equipment required.

6/26/23 SLB

Happy Monday! I know you’re all getting ready for a long holiday week and I think I delivered by giving you the most bang for your time. This week’s new content is a mix of high powered cardio + sculpt and bodyweight recovery, along with a few of our favorite classics from the library.

FULL LENGTH

Rile is a 36-min full-body Cardio + Sculpt that includes key high powered cardio from this month, along with a breakdown and a standing sculpting series. I adore the Cardio-Sculpt-Cardio format. You’ll need medium to heavy weights and a mat. Use 8-10 lbs for the ultimate burn in less time.

Geosmin is the scent molecule released from bacteria in dirt after it rains. What's super cool is that the geosmin blends with different aromatics in different environments. In the forest it smells dank yet fresh, and in the city you can smell the blend of hot concrete and cool rain. This 31-min grounded, bodyweight recovery utilizes a foam roller and can really be both a Quick Burn and a shorter full length workout. You'll feel good (and sore) and it really targets the upper body and core while releasing tension and muscle soreness.

OMG here are some moves you haven’t seen before. It’s a full length dance-based cardio + sculpt with heavy weights and a classic format and an incredible flow. *Left side breakdown is a little ugly. Please use Right arm to slap. You’ll need medium to heavy weights and a mat.

In the forest it smells dank yet fresh, and in the city you can smell the blend of hot concrete and cool rain. Snatched targets the waist and mid-glute like no other with classic standing core sequencing and one medium to heavy weight.

Oh Hey (Again) is an 18-min standing Core Sculpt that is our signature SLB Barre sequencing. You’ll need a sturdy chair or a barre. I developed this classic series in 2006 and everything we do at the barre and standing builds upon this sequence.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Recovery is an important part of any training program. My very favorite way to recover is myofascial release via foam rolling.

Myofascial release is so undervalued, and if you commit to a regular foam rolling habit the results are incredible. I fully believe that it helps prevent injury. If you want to roll in the AM, I recommend rolling vigorously to stimulate blood flow and wake your limbs up. Nighttime rolling should be gentler, slower and over time it starts to feel relaxing. Personally I find it most beneficial to hit my hamstrings and back before heading to sleep. I’ll admit there’s a pretty high barrier to entry, since the first few times rolling can feel very uncomfortable. I like to find the points of tension as I roll, and pause on them breathing into that spot. Breaking up the fascia feels so good and therapeutic to me before bed.

SUMMER SOLSTICE

Here, in the Northern Hemisphere, the air ripens, heat intensifies, and time slows on this longest day of the year. Known in the Gaelic calendar as Litha, it’s a time of celebration. We honor sunlight and its life giving and preserving qualities, and our own brightness and light.

I’m ready to play and soak up the good energy that summer brings. It’s time to shift into manifestation mode and make our goals a reality. Light a bonfire, dance under the stars and delight in this Earth’s immense beauty. Here are five ways to celebrate the much-loved incoming season.

Rise Early

Watching the sun rise is a powerful reminder of nature’s cycles and our often overlooked circadian rhythm. Wake up early and watch it rise with your coffee or tea and feel how those diamond minutes fill you with light and positive energy.

Tune Into Nature

The best way to honor the sun is to be in it, so take your Studio LB workout outdoors, eat outside, and buy fresh flowers to celebrate the new season and the abundance of life that the sun gives us.

Set Summer Intentions

This week is the perfect time to set intentions and re-visit goals for the rest of the year. Reflect on projects and ideas that have been brewing since winter/spring. It’s a great time for a check-in, so make a list or light and candle and manifest what you want and let go of and what you want to keep.

Be Free

Summer is an opportunity to slow down, loosen the reigns, and tune into your inner child. The warmer months bring us a carefree sense of freedom, and an expansive energy that propels us into action as we spend more time outdoors.

SEVEN TIPS FOR BIKINI CONFIDENCE

I’ve been in the fitness industry and have worked with (mostly) women for almost two decades. Each year, as winter turns to spring, women call on me when they want to feel their best wearing less. As I learn about what they want to change about their physical bodies, I also help them do the mental work and identify what they love about themselves. More than the results they achieve with SLB, I love to help women build confidence and realize that their body is the most uniquely beautiful and the most amazing thing that they will ever own.

I’m a pro at making myself look larger and longer both on and off camera. If you’ve never met me in person, I’m shockingly petite (5’0 and 100 lbs) but I’ve always been incredibly curvy. I’ve gone through stages where I didn’t love my curves and wished I was like, AT LEAST 5’2”, but over the years I’ve learned to really appreciate and truly love my body. I’m here to tell you that loving your body takes time but it’s not difficult to do.

Identify and Own your Strengths

Instead of picking yourself apart or comparing yourself to someone else, focus on your what makes you uniquely beautiful. I promise that you can identify one thing you love about yourself and that will turn into ten.

Drop into the Physical

I like to use movement to break negative patterns and shift my mindset. The quickest and easiest way to upgrade your mood is to move. You can literally move the negative out of your mind and body, because movement can chemically change how you feel. Emotion is enhanced by motion, and movement can make you feel good, sexy, strong, beautiful and empowered. I’m biased but there is nothing out there that will tone and shape your body as quickly as Studio LB. Combining cardio and resistance training is key and even if you’re just doing our Quick Burn workouts, you are guaranteed results in as little as ten workouts. It’s as instant gratification as it gets.

Self-Care

Take a bath, apply a mask or a spray tan, and just flirt with life a little bit more. Love and the libido is a vital sign in your well-being and your body’s eco-system. I’m not just talking about sex. Everything in life is connected to the heart, desire and feeling alive. I’ve learned that love really starts at home – within ourselves. Feeling sexy (for myself) allows me to tap into my creativity, confidence, all that is feminine and ultimately - loving my body.

Wear what feels good

Forget about what’s trendy and stick to what you feel the most confident and comfortable in…and smile. Nobody will notice your insecurities if you feel good and look authentically happy.

Eat with LB

A few days before you’re planning on being in a bikini, drink plenty of water and decrease sodium and foods that cause bloating. It's not a case of healthy vs. unhealthy – choose still over sparkling water and stay away from raw veggies like cabbage or broccoli and beans which can cause bloating. I always choose anti-bloat options like sauteed greens and grilled chicken before I show major skin.

Posture Perfect

Stand up straight with your shoulders pulled back and down and with as much confidence as you can gather. Lengthening your spine out through the crown of your head is literally the quickest and most effective change you can make.

High Pony

Volume or “big hair” draws attention to the upper half of your body, balancing your silhouette and providing a distraction from any parts you're not in love with at the current moment. A high pony adds two inches in height and stretches you out. Even a sun hat will do the trick!

3/27/23 SLB

We’re rounding out the month strong and this week’s new content feels so fresh. Make sure you do Duchess no matter what. I worked hard on her and she has a full length feel and burn in just 24-min.

FULL LENGTH

The Natural combines a new format of Cardio + Sculpt with grounded sculpting that lengthens and strengthens everything. It’s challenging, great for all levels and fun. I lreally love the flow of it. The Natural lands in-studio on Wednesday.

Wavy is a 49-min Cardio + Sculpt with big power moves. You’ll love this one. You’ll need a variety of weights and a mat.

Elevenstars is 48-min of total-body grounded sculpting that really targets the core. Your obliques and lats are going to feel this with a new side lying leg and abs series. You’ll need light to medium weights and a mat.

Archetype is such an asset to our collection! It blends classic grounded core work and weighted standing sculpting. And it works. If you like our classic full-body workouts and format, this one is for you. You'll need light to medium weights and a mat.

BODY PARTS

Amplifier is all about growth. This Body Parts workout is mostly done on the elbows and is perfect for when you want to focus on the rectus (six-pack). Ankle weights for extra burn.

QUICK BURN

Duchess is a 24-min sweaty no equipment Core Sculpt QB that has a classic format and a push-up breakdown. It begins with a Lib to Attitude Swing, Knee Slides and Two Knees, then transitions to Lunges, Curtsies and Side Lunges, fold-over and push-ups. Wear ankle weights for a  full length feel and burn.

Bombshell is a 26-min QB that targets everything. It begins with standing sculpting section then moves to the mat for Abs, glutes, hip work, triceps and pushups. If you're looking for a total-body sculpt in less than 30 minutes, this is it. Add weights to the standing section to really up the cardio and the burn!

LB'S FAVORITE REBOUNDERS FOR YOUR BUDGET

Rebounding is super fun and provides major health benefits from boosting balance, digestion, lymphatic drainage and immune function.  Rebounding is also more than twice as effective as running without extra stress on the ankles and knees.

Rebounding is unique since it uses the forces of acceleration and deceleration and can work on every cell in the body.  When you bounce, acceleration occurs as you bounce up, then a split-second weightless pause at the peak, a deceleration at an increased G-force on the way down, then impact to the rebounder, and you repeat.

In general, the more springs a rebounder has, the better it tends to be. However, the better a rebounder is, the more you’ll pay. Regardless of your budget, I don’t believe that you need to spend more than $250 on an at-home rebounder.  And you don’t need a bungee rebounder…don’t believe the hype.  Springs work just fine.  Over the last ten years I’ve used many brands and can recommend a great one for almost every budget.

Here’s what to look for:

Comfort: Like a car, all rebounders have a different feel.  Some will feel great jumping barefoot, and with some you’ll want to save your soles and wear shoes.  If you prefer jumping with sneakers, you’ll be able to spend less.  But, if you’re planning on jumping 15 minutes daily, a couple times a week, or a few times a month and you prefer working barefoot, you might want to spring for a comfier one.

Bounce: You’ll sink into some rebounders and they’ll give you a lot more bounce, while others will be firm and give you barely any bounce at all.  Bounce has nothing to do with quality, it really all depends on the type of workout you want.  If it’s for cardio (LB rebounder workouts for sure!) then choose a bouncier one; if it’s mainly for lymphatic drainage, get a tighter one and stay low.  Low bouncing is easier and you won’t get as tired.

Frame Quality: If you get a rebounder with a lousy frame, it will wear over a short period of time.  If you’re going to be using it heavily, get one that can withstand some bouncing.  Some rebounders fold up for easy storage, so if you’re tight on space, keep that in mind. Personally I’m not a fan of the foldable ones.  Some take two people to fold and lock into place, and god forbid your finger gets caught in there.  They sorta scare me, but I’m also scared of bees so…

Here are my top four rebounder picks in three price ranges.  Honestly, I don't love any rebounder in the $100-$150 range, most have straight legs so they walk away from you as you jump and most tend to be pretty noisy.

1.  Jumpsport Model 250 ($249).  I have this one at home and it's top of the line.  I love it b/c the frame is sturdy and slightly smaller, it's super lightweight, and the arched legs keep it still on the ground during the highest of jumps.  You can also adjust the firmness and tension which is awesome.  The 250 gives you freedom of movement because you can jump on those padded petals, so there's a lot more surface area. This one will last you for life - even with heavy usage.

2.  Jumpsport Model 220  ($229) Just like the model 250, but the 220 gives you less jumping area without the petals but still provides a LOT of bounce and all the bells and whistles.

3.  Ancheer Rebounder  ($62-$78) These models are sturdy and one folds up twice, but all are firm with a low bounce.  If you prefer staying low or are tall and have low ceilings these are a great option.

4. Stamina Folding Rebounder ($31.89) This quiet little rebounder comes in chic colors and folds up if you're looking to save space.  It's very reasonably priced but is a starter model so I'm guessing this will last you six months to one year if you're planning on jumping one hour daily/5x a week.  This one is a great option if you're looking to jump in and then upgrade in time.
