ON THE FIRES
Here in Los Angeles, our hearts our heavy as we see the the continued impact of the fires on our LA community. So many of our friends and neighbors have lost everything, and no one's lost nothing. We're devastated by the tragedy in our community and inspired by the way the city has band together and is helping each other in the worst of times.
Everyone’s health has been affected over the last week and will continue to be affected as the fires burn and after the smoke clears. For those looking for support for dysregulated bodies and nervous systems (your own or a loved one), I’ll drop a few notes below on what I’m currently focusing on while protecting against additional health risks. Nothing cures the heaviness of loss but all these measures help when you’re feeling the effects of extreme stress on the body.
MOVEMENT
Movement has always been my medicine. Just five minutes of breath-led movement can do wonders for moving emotion, de-stressing the body and clearing the mind. It’s not going to cure the heaviness of loss but it will uplift every system in the body.
HYDRATION
I’ve been drinking lots of water to support all the body’s systems and have been using products like Body Bio’s E-Lyte for electrolytes and trace minerals.
MASKS
Outside, I’m wearing N95s although P100+ respirators are even better. Not all house fire particulates are included in AQI, and pollutants might stick to surfaces and whip up with wind, even if there's no smoke. If you're having trouble finding masks, Los Angeles libraries have N95s available, no charge.
INDOORS
Vitaclean and Joie shower filters and along with HEPA air purifiers at home.
SLEEP
We're leaning on sleep aids to help turn away from screens, notifications and 24/7 news. Magnesium, Alice Nightcap chocolate has helped tremendously to quiet the mind and get good sleep without feeling groggy the next morning.
