  • FAQ

WHAT AIRPORT DO I FLY INTO?

Denpasar Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is the international airpot you will be flying into. Bali is a 12-hour time difference from Eastern Standard Time, jet lag can be challenging.

Remember you can lose up to two days with the time change and flight time, so double check your arrival date and retreat start date.

    WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?

Due to the jet-lag, we highly recommend arriving early to adjust to the time change. If your time off allows we recommend a little longer, if possible

Check in at Soulshine begins at 3pm on the first day of the retreat and check out is at 11am on the last day of the retreat.

If you fly in early, you can leave your bags in the luggage storage and enjoy the pool while you wait for check in. If your flight back home is late at night, you can also put your luggage in storage and enjoy the property and spa.

    ARE THERE PASSPORT RULES?

Make sure that you have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date or you will be turned away from your departing city. You must also have proof of a return ticket.

HOW DO I GET TO SOULSHINE FROM THE AIRPORT?

We have arranged private transportation to and from the airport. One of Soulshine’s trusted drivers will meet you with a Soulshine Bali sign and big welcome smile.

If you have any questions regarding your arrival time and transportation, pls email info@soulshinebali.com.

    CULTIVATING COMMUNITY

We always gather with the intention of cultivating community. We encourage you to select a shared room. From our experience, you meet like-minded people and can create life-long friendships. If you will be traveling alone and would like to share, we would be happy to pair you with a compatible roommate.

WHAT IS THE ELECTRICAL CURRENT/OUTLET IN BALI?

Bali electricity runs at 220V.  A Universal Adapter will be necessary if you are bringing any electrical items.

Soulshine provides hairdryers in each room. Please do not bring your hairdryer as it might blow.

    DO I NEED VACCINES?

Traveling outside of your home country can expose you to “bugs” your body might not be used to. The odd case of "bali belly" (diarrhea) is not uncommon. Packing an anti-diarrheal can put you at ease. It's always nice to check in with your family doctor or local travel clinic if you need any information on vaccines or medications to bring with you. There are some great pharmacies ("Apotek" in Indonesian) in Ubud, and an awesome health clinic nearby Soulshine Bali in case you may need anything.

    WHAT IS THE CURRENCY?

The currency is called Rupiah. You can bring your own currency over and convert it, or use ATM machines to withdraw Indonesian currency.  ATM withdrawal fees vary bank to bank, so make sure you check in with yours to get all the info. Many restaurants and stores take credit cards. Don't forget to let your bank or credit card company know you are traveling.

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE AND WHAT SHOULD I PACK?

Bali tends to have fairly stable weather with the ‘wet’ season occurring between November and March and the ‘dry’ season between May and September. The sun still shines bright during the wet season. It is generally always hot with temperatures hovering in the mid to high 80s and up. We recommend light clothing that breathes but can also protect you from the sun. Sleeves or a light jacket is also helpful in the evenings if you decide to take a scooter ride.

    ARE THERE MOSQUITOS?

Yes. We recommend bringing a mosquito repellent and applying it generously at dusk and dawn, when they this is the equivalent of their happy hour. There is organic repellent at reception for your use as well.

  • CULTURE

Bali is one of the 17,000 islands of Indonesia. Bali itself is made of 4 islands, the most well-known being mainland Bali. Ubud is the geographical center, and the cultural, spiritual and arts center of mainland Bali.

Ubud is derived from the Balinese word “Ubad’, meaning medicine. Ubud has long been known for powerful curative energy and for centuries people have flocked to this oasis for healing. An array of yoga offerings, breathwork, sound healing, and spiritual healers can be found in Ubud.

Ubud has some of the most popular tourist destinations for Bali including sacred water temples, the Monkey Forest, picturesque rice terraces, waterfalls, and the traditional shopping market. Ubud was nominated by the Ministry of Tourism as a world gastronomy destination. It is a foodie haven, especially when it comes to vegan and gluten-free food. As the geographical center of Bali, the other hot spots to visit are easily accessible.

Hinduism is the soul of Bali with over 20,000 temples in Bali.

Incense burns through out the villages as the local balinese offer their prayers three times a day to please the Gods.

Explore the thousand year old ancient rice fields, still carefully harvested today in the old traditions. Ubud is best known for it's generations of artisans. Wood and stone carvers, silversmiths, painters, batik makers, weavers, these skills and talents are passed down and carefully preserved. Dancers move gracefully as their hands and eyes tell the stories of lifetimes ago. Bali is a feast for the senses with almost daily ceremonies celebrating the cycle of life.

  • HIGHLIGHTS

    TEGALALANG RICE TERRACES

Rise and shine early to visit one of the most magical valleys of Bali: the Tegalalang Rice Terraces. Here, countless layers of rice fields spread across the hills, lined by the island’s luscious jungles. Our favorite time to visit is when the sun has barely risen, covering the fields in beautiful light.

In the center of Ubud’s town, surrounded by water and beautiful pink lotus flowers, lies the Ubud Water Palace, the Saraswati Hindu temple. It’s dedicated to the Hindu goddess of knowledge, arts, and learning and makes a must-do in Ubud, Bali. Explore the temple grounds, admiring the different shrines, statues, and water gardens.

    GUNUNG KIWI/VALLEY OF KINGS

Bali’s largest ancient temple complex comprising a collection of ancient 'Candi' or shrine reliefs carved directly into the face of a rock cliff.  One of the most stunningly unique archeological sites besides being an important sacred place for the Balinese.

SHOP AT THE UBUD ART MARKET

Ubud Art Market is one of our personal favorites on the island, and we always come away with loads of treasures. The vibrant market is located in the heart of town and is open daily.

    VISIT THE WATERFALLS

Bali is known to have some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Indonesia, with many of them located in the center of the island. Because of this, chasing waterfalls is one of the best things to do in Ubud to experience the beauty of the island’s natural surroundings.

    KANTO LAMPO

The Kanto Lampo waterfall, about 40 minutes outside of Ubud, is a huge, beautiful wall of water and a popular one to climb. You’ll know this is the place to be, as this is where you’ll find all the locals hanging out at weekends, swimming in the small pool area in front of the rocks. Take your time at this beautiful spot; jump in the water, enjoy a relaxing swim, and shower under the falls.

    CAMPUHAN RIDGE WALK

Around sunset, go on a beautiful hike over Campuhan Ridge. This 2-kilometer trail lies close to the center of Ubud and is the perfect way to end a day full of sightseeing. While you peacefully wind down, take in the panoramic views of the surrounding jungle-covered hills of Ubud, Bali.

    TIRTA EMPUL TEMPLE

One of the most famous holy spring water temples in Bali. This complex is a place of worship for the god Indra. The god Indra is the manifestation of the god Wisnu, the god of water. With three large pool sections in this temple each with several water taps. This pool is a place where you perform a ritual of self-cleansing by placing your body and head under the drainage water.
